Activities directions and the structure of the Council

The Research Council on the Chemistry of High-Purity Substances was formed in 1979 at the Department of Physical Chemistry and Technology of Inorganic Materials of RAS (in 1979-1988 the Research Council of the USSR Academy of Sciences on Physical Chemistry and Technology of High-Purity Substances). Academician Grigory Grigorievich Devyatykh was the founder of the Council.

The setting up of the Research Council was due to the achievements in the field of chemistry and technology of high-purity substances which greatly contributed to the production of the materials with improved and unique properties required for fiber optics, physics and semiconductors technique, quantum electronics, nuclear physics and other fields of new engineering. The work of the Research Council consists in coordinating the research activities connected with theory and methods of ultrapurification of substances, high-sensitive methods of analysis, production of high-purity substances and materials, integrated study of their properties. The activity of the Council also provides for the development of Collection Exhibition of Special-Purity Substances at the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science of RAS acting on the basis of the Institute of Chemistry of High-Purity Substances of RAS (Nizhny Novgorod). The organizational tasks of the Council are running conferences, scientific schools and seminars on the main directions of the chemistry of high-purity substances and materials:
- development of the theory for ultrapurification of substances;
- development of the methods for production of high-purity (by the total impurities) and special-purity (by the limiting impurities) substances and materials on their basis;
- development of the methods for analysis of high-purity substances;
- improvement of quality and expansion of the nomenclature of high-purity chemical reagents;
- production of high-purity materials for micro- and nano-electronics, fiber and power optics, opto-electronics, nuclear engineering;
- production and investigation of the properties of high-purity isotopically enriched substances;
- expansion and systematization of knowledge on the effect of impurities upon the properties of substances and materials.

The structure and composition of the Research Council are approved by the Decision of the Bureau of the Department of Chemistry and Materials Science of RAS (Resolution No. 51 of April 12, 2010).

The Council structure includes the following sections:
